Career
DFM alumni have excellent career prospects thanks to their qualification in two legal systems as well as the high-performing result rate in the First State Examination. Through the constantly updated DFM Yearbook, they also gain exclusive access to a special network of program graduates.
DFM alumni work at the European Commission, the European Court of Justice, the United Nations, German and French embassies, law firms specializing in cross-border activities, international business law firms, accounting and fund management firms, universities and research institutions, federal and state ministries, as well as judges and public prosecutors. Our alumni are also involved in addressing global challenges (climate change, social inequality) or in development aid and make the world a better place.
Below are displayed statistics of the occupational fields of DFM graduates:

Close contacts with leading national and global law firms
Our law firm partners support numerous participants of the DFM law studies as well as our LL.M. postgraduate program on their career path. Since the start of the cooperation between the University of Cologne and the Sorbonne 30 years ago, the alumni associations J.D.F.R.e.V., JPC and DFM Alumni e.V. have been able to win over various business law firms for events, workshops, discussion rounds and other cooperation projects. In addition, a large number of graduates of our Franco-German programs are now working as lawyers in these law firms, many of which are national and global leaders.
In particular, participants in the DFM law program benefit from our network through internships or working student positions. The early contact to excellent law firms can also be useful for later choices of legal internships and the legal clerkship. Our students can also gain initial contacts with business players through the events organized by the student associations and, given our small group sizes, benefit from excellent access to extracurricular events.
Further information can also be found on the Internet sites of the network associations.
